NOS 1970's .050 uF 50v. Ceramic Cap  (Z5V)

These are not a reproduction, but genuine new old stock capacitors. The tone capacitor can make a large difference in the tone of pickups when trying to replicate precisely the vintage Strat and Tele tones, even with the tone control set on bright. This is the same type of ceramic disc capacitor that was supplied in Stratocasters, Telecasters, and many other guitars in the 1970's, but a smaller diameter than the "Red Dime" size.  They have a nice tone.  The Cerco .05 ones are dated 2/18/1973 on the bag.  The Universen .1 ones are dated 9/7/1970 on the bag.  The KCK .05 ones are not dated but are marked on the capacitor .05uF which puts them in the early 1970's time period. Later capacitors would have been marked 473M etc. This transition in standard capacitor values and marking codes began to be used in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

After the Cornell-Dubilier ZNW1P1 paper-wax capacitors were dropped by Fender in the early 1960's, a dime sized ceramic capacitor with a value of .1uF was used for several years then in about 1969 or 1970 the capacitor value was changed to .05 uf.  I have a very few of these exact NOS value caps available here, although they have short and formed leads they are the exact same value and brand that was used by Fender.  I have them in a separate listing but have also included them here.  After that, both ceramic and polyester capacitors were used.  According to many players, the modern ceramic caps don't sound the same as the NOS variety, and the old type is much to be preferred.  .05 uF isn't that common of a size, NOS examples of these are becoming much harder to find.  Again, these are smaller than the "red dime" or the "orange dime" Circle D variety.  If you are looking for those I have a reproduction version here. Also, if you are looking for the green ceramic versions I have them here.

The original tolerance on these was +80% -20% (same as the vintage ones) but I test each one to be within a +/-20% tolerance. I include a short piece of black vintage style cloth insulation with each one, which is appropriate to the vintage installations. I also have the larger and darker 1960's .1uf "red dime" variety available in another listing.  If you want to replicate the 1970's tones getting the capacitor right is at least part of the ticket.

Price is for a single capacitor and includes shipping by first class mail. Some of the photos show a pot for size reference- it isn't included, just the cap and insulation.  Due to the free shipping, there is a minimum $5.00 total order purchase, and a price break for multiples.
